Installing Four Port C-Band Feed in Japan

January 24, 2012 at 3:24 pm

We were given the task of exchanging a two port C-Band feed on an Andrew 4.5M prime focus antenna for a four port TX/RX feed. This is something that Andrew never liked, nor probably approved of, but nevertheless that’s what we are attempting in Japan during the latter part of January.

The problem is that the four port variant is heavy, and will push the strength of the feed support arms to their limit. The second problem is that the antenna is already in place on top of a two story building making access very tough. The only way of doing this is by man-lift

This is the new four port diplexer for the Andrew 4.5M antenna and you can tell from the photograph that is does have a considerably weight.

Now the other issue is getting up to the antenna, there is no roof space to stand a ladder and so everything will need to be done by man-lift

On the 24th. of January we commenced the exchange of the two port for the four port feed and as the work progresses we will update the progress on this BLOG – OK so it’s not as exciting as following the path of a teen as she sails around the world, but we don’t have very exciting lives! We get excited by smaller issues.
